2D-PRINTABLE new publication

We are proud to announce that our partners from UNISTRA and TCD published a new article under the 2D-PRINTABLE project titled “Defect-engineering of liquid-phase exfoliated 2D semiconductors: stepwise covalent growth of electronic lateral hetero-networks”, featured in Materials Horizons. This study presents a novel method for synthesizing two-dimensional (2D) in-plane heterostructures with enhanced optical and electrical properties, surpassing traditional methods that rely on labor-intensive and energy-consuming growth processes. The researchers introduce a stepwise microfluidic approach that utilizes defect engineering in liquid-phase exfoliated transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) to create hetero-networks. By healing sulfur vacancies in MoS2 and WS2, they bridge different nanosheets with dithiolated conjugated molecular linkers. This results in solution-processed, nanoscale networks that improve charge transport pathways and suppress tightly bound interlayer excitons. The method offers a scalable solution for creating heterostructures with tunable properties, which can be further optimized using stimuli-responsive molecular linkers.

Congratulations to UNISTRA and TCD on this remarkable achievement!
